Setting the Wasatch Front on Fire: Introducing the Salt Lake Local of Black Rose/Rosa Negra

After years of local organizing, shared study, and connecting with comrades from Black Rose across the US, we are proud to announce the formation of the Salt Lake Local of Black Rose Anarchist Federation/Federación Anarquista Rosa Negra (BRRN).

With members already embedded in local struggles, we are excited to formally establish a pole for organized anarchism and social revolution in Utah. At a time when the working class of Salt Lake is facing down ecological, economic, and social crises, we stand ready to organize against the state and capital and for libertarian communism.

While today Utah is known for religious extremism and social conservatism, we pull from a long legacy of radical organizing, dating back to the local efforts of the Industrial Workers of the World. Salt Lake also stands as both the birthplace of “Big Bill” Haywood and where Joe Hill was murdered. As if their spirits still haunt this place, Utah has recently witnessed a surge in class struggle, ranging from striking ski-patrol workers to residents marching against gentrification.

It is in the midst of this activity that our newfound Local is born, ready to deepen our roots and build towards a free Salt Lake. As a Local of Black Rose Anarchist Federation, we invite all anarchists in Salt Lake and Utah to read our shared program, connect with our members, and consider joining our struggle.
